This is a very hardy hybrid from Scotland and only female forms are known. Its demands are light, needing only an open and exposed site such as found in a rock garden. Combines well with small perennial tulips. Resembles the B.C. native Kinnikinnick - Arctostaphylos uva-ursi.

This is a picture of a plant that was started as a plug in the spring. The picture was taken October 20.

Description: small, low trailing shrub; 30 cm (12"); dark, glossy green leaves; interesting catkins in April-May

Conditions: full sun to light shade; drought tolerant; exposed site with excellent drainage and gritty, moisture-retentive soil that is low in nitrogen

Coldest zone: 4 (find your zone; further info on plant hardiness)
