Salix acutifolia
Common name: Long-leaved violet
willow, Sharpleaf willow
Description: large shrub or small tree;
5 m (16') tall; dark violet-red new growth; we formerly
stated that our strain is proving to be a suckering plant.
The statement about it being a suckering plant is an error.
It is NOT a suckering plant.
Conditions: full sun to part shade; ample
water; drought tolerant once fully established
Coldest Zone: 2 (find your

A very ornamental species with the new

next year. Older bark has a fine netted pattern. The silver
catkins appear on dark branches before the leaves come out.
For winter enjoyment, place in front of a dark background
(eg. a wall or dark evergreens). Native to Poland, Russia
and into east Asia.
Used for shelterbelts on the Prairies.
