| Hi, my name is Jim Brockmeyer. Some of you may know of me
from my mail order catalogue, or perhaps have seen one
of my slide presentations.
We are well on our way to including a picture of each of our
ornamental grasses and willows. We continually add more images.
I hope you enjoy looking at the photos as much as I have enjoyed
taking them. Perhaps you too will be inspired to include some
of our low maintenance plants in your gardening projects.
In 2009 we have 116 different ornamental grasses,
52 varieties of willows and 13 perennials. This
year we have added 12 new grasses, one of which
is our very own introduction, Andopogon
gerardii 'New Wave'. It is shorter and more
compact than most other varieties of Big Bluestem.
Its other distinctive features include the beautiful
red tinges on its leaves, during the growing season,
deep red flower stems and a noticeable separation
between its leaves and its flowers, which helps
highlight the flowers.
If you are having a difficult time trying to decide
which ornamental grasses to choose for your garden,
a great place to start is with our Grass
Comparison Chart. There we have all the grasses
listed, with brief information about each one. You
can easily compare them to each other for height,
bloom time, hardiness, drought tolerance, preferred
conditions, etc. We will also soon have a printable
Selection Guide available. Watch for it to be in
the What's New column on the right, as well as a
link to it on our Landscape Uses page. It will contain
the same info as the Landscape Uses page, but in
a different format, and the grasses will be individually
listed. (Note: this may not be ready this year).
Thanks,
Jim B. |
